Over the course of the weekend of 26-27 November, Gingins Cricket Club once again hosted its annual indoor tournament at the College Madame De Staël in Carouge (GE). Along with the home team were teams representing Zurich, Basel, La Chat, Cossonay and GRYCC - totalling 55 players.
With a scoring system that encouraged accurate bowling, tight fielding and sharp running between the wickets, the overall standard (as commented by the head of youth development, Cricket Switzerland) was exceptionally high across the 12 matches played.
On Saturday were pool matches with the teams divided into two pools of 3 teams each determining the seeding for Sunday’s semi-finals and the final. The pool matches were closely contested, and the result could have gone either way. There were also consolation matches, each of which were also keenly competed.

AGO
Bob Barber U15 Award for Gingins player Thomas Allen
The Bob Barber Award, presented by Bob Barber (a former England International cricketer), is awarded annually to the Swiss junior player, who has made the most outstanding contribution to junior cricket in their age group (U11, U13, U15, U17 & U19).
On March 5th, Bob Barber presented the 2015 Swiss Cricketer of the Year awards to the age group winners for last season. Thomas Allen was the honoured recipient of the U15 Award. Thomas is the third Gingins player (after Rohan Jain in 2011/2013 and Aidan Andrews 2013/2014) to receive this award.
Yeti Singh introduced the awards with a short recap of comments gathered from all the Swiss coaches about each nominated player. In Thomas's case he was commended for his good performances with both bat and ball but especially for his dedication to training hard and to being coached. Thomas is a regular tourist with the Swiss national teams and also the Gingins U17/19.
Thomas joined Gingins as an U11 and had a perfectionist streak from that young age. He sets himself high standards and expectations and practices hard, never missing nets sessions. From September 2016 he will be in England and working hard to be selected to represent Sevenoaks School next summer.
On 16-17 April Manoj Parmar will be here from England to provide group training for the younger age groups and one-on-one sessions for the older ones.
- For the younger players U7, U9, U11 and U13 there will be group training sessions on the Saturday afternoon (16h00 - 18h00) and Sunday morning (9h00 - 12h00).
- For the older players, U15s and above, there will be one-on-one sessions worked around the group training sessions. These will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis (and coordinated by Sander Winckel).
Venue: The training sessions will all be held at the sportshall at the ESEP school in Borex/Crassier (Rue de la tour 55, 1263 Crassier)
Cost: There are no costs for the group sessions, but there is a fee payable for the one-on-one sessions. Sander will provide the details of this.
If you have any questions, please contact Arnold Bucheli. Please indicate your availability for the both days on TeamSnap.
Hi all,
These past couple of weekends, have been really busy. Gingins Cricket Club hosted indoor tournaments at the U11, U13 and U15 age groups and held indoor matches at the U17/U19 age group.
1. U11s (March 5&6 at College Madame de Staël) - The Gingins U11s were successful, winning their tournament. Well done to all the lads on a great team effort. The other teams competing came from Basel, Zurich, GRYCC and Luxembourg. Over the weekend the matches were competitive, and played in a tremendous spirit. Our team played 4 matches and won all four.
2. U15s (March 5&6 at Salle Omnisport CFPT Mecanique) - The Gingins U15s came in second place in their tournament, which was won by Zurich. Well played to the boys after a disappointing tournament in Basel in November. The team played four matches winning 3, losing one. The lone loss came against Zurich, who also finished on a 3-1 record and won based on the head-to-head result. The other teams competing represented Basel (3rd), Cossonay (4th), and La Chat (5th).
3. U13s (March 12&13 at played at both venues on Saturday and CFPT on Sunday) - The U13s had a six-team round-robin tournament. They finished with a 4-1 record, with their only loss coming against eventual winners Basel, coming in a very credible second place. The other teams to compete were Zurich (3rd), Swiss National U11 side* (4th), GRYCC 5th and La Chat (6th).
* Gingins players also represented the Swiss National U11 side.
4. U17/U19s (March 13 at College Madame de Staël) - The Gingins U17/U19 combined team played matches against teams from GRYCC and Zurich. Winning one and losing the other. These matches formed part of the team selection for the Swiss Colts National U20s side. Good luck to our players in the selection process.
Well played to all players, you represented yourselves and the club in the true spirit of the game.
I would also like to thank the Moms and Dads for assisting with the coaching, umpiring, score-keeping, catering and, of course, cleaning up at the end of the weekends. It is only with the support of the whole team that makes hosting these tournaments possible.
After the Easter break we will begin our practices for the outdoor season.
•On 9-10 April there is the coaching course for parents. If you have not yet signed up, there are still some spaces available.
•On 16-17 April Manoj Parmar will be here from England to provide group training for the younger age groups and one-on-one sessions for the older ones.
If you need more information on these last two points, please ask me.
Best regards,
Arnold
